WHO Chief Plans Overhaul: Cost-Cutting and Priority Reset Post-US Exit”

US President Donald Trump on Monday announced his removal from the organization on the first day of his second term, accusing global health agencies of mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic and any international health crisis.

Geneva/Landon: The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) told employees in an internal meeting that after announcing his removal from the US organization, the organization will cut its expenses and examine the need to give priority to health activities.

US President Donald Trump on Monday announced the first day of his second term in office, in which he alleged that global health agencies have mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic and any international health crisis. “This is our last announcement.”

“This announcement has made our current situation even more serious…”, WHO’s chief director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a letter sent to employees on January 23. It said the agency has planned to significantly reduce travel expenses and stop recruitment.

A spokesperson confirmed the memo was authentic but declared it to be a comment further.

The United States confirmed Thursday that it will separate from the US on January 22, 2026.

The United States is still the biggest financial supporter of the US, contributing nearly 18 per cent of its total financial strength.
