“Jalgaon Pushpak Express Tragedy LIVE: 13 Dead, Several Injured as Probe Intensifies”

At least 13 people died on Wednesday evening (January 22, 2025) in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra when they escaped from a train after fearing a fire and were then hit by another train coming at a high speed on the adjacent plateau. The dead include nine men and four women.

They said that the almost two-degree sway of the train was creating a visibility obstruction and was reducing the distance required to apply the brakes. Speaking to The Hindu, Central Public Works Minister Swapnil Neela said, “The drivers of Karnataka Express saw the traffic jam and applied the brakes.
There was almost a two-degree disturbance due to which visibility was disrupted and people here could not even see the train coming. The officials tried their best to avoid the incident.”
