“Jalgaon Pushpak Express Tragedy LIVE: 13 Dead, Several Injured as Probe Intensifies”
At least 13 people died on Wednesday evening (January 22, 2025) in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra when they escaped from a train after fearing a fire and were then hit by another train coming at a high speed on the adjacent plateau. The dead include nine men and four women.

The deceased have been admitted to nearby Pachora hospitals while the bodies of the deceased have been sent to Jalgaon government hospital for post-mortem. The Maharashtra government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased.

According to officials, after the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express was stopped due to the alarm chain being pulled, the train driver turned on the flashing lights and applied brakes as per rules. They said that the almost two-degree sway of the train was creating a visibility obstruction and was reducing the distance required to apply the brakes. Speaking to The Hindu, Central Public Works Minister Swapnil Neela said, “The drivers of Karnataka Express saw the traffic jam and applied the brakes.
There was almost a two-degree disturbance due to which visibility was disrupted and people here could not even see the train coming. The officials tried their best to avoid the incident.”
